Kali Bari Temple- Walking:

Kali Bari Mandir is a Hindu temple situated on Bantony Hill, Shimla. The temple is dedicated to fearsome reincarnation of Goddess Kali, known as Shyamala, after which the Shimla city may be named.


Kali Bari temple was originally built in 1823 by a Bengali Brahmin Ram Charan Brahamchari in the vicinity of Rothney Castle on Jakhoo Hill. That’s why it resembles the Dakshineswar Kali Temple in Kolkata.[2] It is one of the ancient temples of the city and features a unique Hindu-style architecture along with blue coloured wooden idol of goddess Kali. Later, the British shifted the location of the temple to Bantony Hill. The temple trust formed in 1902 mainly consists of Bengali members.

Shree Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, Shimla – Cycle

Sankat Mochan Temple is a Hindu temple, dedicated to Hindu deity Hanuman in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. The temple is Shimla’s second most visited Hanuman temple after Jakhu Temple. It was established in 1950 by noted religious figure, Neem Karoli Baba.

History

The temple was established in 1950 by Neem Karoli Baba, after he spent 10–12 days in the forest area. While meditating, he got some instinct that Hanuman temple should be built on the site. Baba told his wish to his followers and eventually in the year of 1962 the then Lieutenant Governor Bajrang Bahadur Singh and other followers started the construction of the temple. The idols of RamaSitaLakshmanaShiva and Ganesha were also established in the temple. The temple was inaugurated on 21 June 1966 on the day of Tuesday. Gradually the temple gained a lot of popularity and faith

Tara Devi Temple – Cycle

Tara Devi temple is one of the most visited religious places in Shimla. It is installed at a height of 7200 feet above sea level and situated around 11 km away from Shimla city. There is a Shiv temple Shiv Bavdi nearby.

Tara Devi temple was built by Sen dynasty kings sometime around 1766 A.D.[1] The fort of Giri Sen is still there in Junga.[2]

According to a story which traces back to 250 years,[3] the king Bhupendra Sen built the temple and after he had a vision in which Goddess Tara Devi asked him to install a template there so that people could get her blessings. He also installed a wooden statue of Goddess there.

Later, King Balbir Sen had a vision of Goddess Tara where she asked him to install the temple on Tarav hill top. The king did the same and also erected an idol of Goddess made up of “Ashtadhatu”,[4]  a mix of eight precious elements.The idol was carried on an element named Shankar. It is believed that individuals who visit with unwavering devotion will have their wishes come true.

Jakhoo Temple- Ropeway

Jakhu Temple (also Jakhoo Temple) is an ancient temple in ShimlaHimachal Pradesh, India, dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Hanuman.[1] It is situated at Jakhu Hill, Shimla’s highest peak, 2.5 km (1.6 mi) east of the Ridge at a height of 2,455 m (8,054 ft) above sea level.[2] Every year, a festival is held on Dussehra, before 1972 the festival used to be held at Annadale.[3] Shri Hanuman Ji’s statue is situated in the temple premises which is known as one of the tallest in the world.[4]

According to the Ramayana, Hanuman stopped at the location to rest while searching for the Sanjivni Booti to revive Lakshmana. A giant 108-feet-high idol of Hanuman was unveiled at Jakhu Hanuman temple on 4 November 2010. At 108 feet (33 m), it surpasses the statue of Christ the Redeemer, which measures at 98 feet (30 m), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
